| What do DAANI do? |
DAANI Information for Schools and Education Professionals |
Sporting opportunities are available to young people of restricted growth in Northern Ireland. The Northern Ireland Region has been up and running for 3 years and is an integral part of the Dwarf Athletic Association UK. The DAAUK Association has been running for fourteen years and has recently employed a National Development Officer to drive forward the Association at a Regional, National and International level. |
| Our Committee are dedicated to promoting and developing sport for persons of restricted growth and to enable young people to enter and compete in sport on an equal footing. We offer a wide range of sports and physical activities in Northern Ireland on a regular basis such as Badminton, Football, Athletics and Skiing. We also organise regular outdoor adventurous activities such as water skiing, climbing and archery. Our Region is now well established and has the provision for those who just want to come and have a go and keep fit, right through to those talented enough to compete at the 2012 Paralympic Games. Our Development Officer is currently working with National Governing Bodies to secure additional classifications in Badminton and Athletics for the 2012 Paralympic Games. |
| In terms of our competition framework, the DAAUK organise an annual National Open Dwarf Games in May and also a National Boccia Championship in September. Our Region is currently planning and organising the 2009 World Dwarf Games to be held in Belfast with the assistance of local Sports Development Officers and the Belfast City Council which is a great opportunity for any new members to the DAANI Region. We also encourage our members to engage in local inclusive sports clubs to further develop their talents and to fit into the National Governing Body frameworks for Player Pathways. |
| We feel that our Association gives people of restricted growth a real chance to succeed in the field of sport both at a recreational and elite level; therefore we meet the needs and aspirations of all members. We have seen first hand how the self esteem of young people can dramatically improve through joining the DAA and are therefore passionate about ensuring that all people of restricted growth know about our Association and have access to it. We therefore kindly ask that you promote our Association through your School Sport Networks and signpost any young people of restricted growth to our Association. |
| If you would like to see our Region in action or support a young person in joining the Association, please do not hesitate to contact me to arrange a visit or meeting. |
I look forward to hearing from you soon, Kind Regards, Eugene McVeigh |
