| What do DAANI do? |
DAANI Information for Health Profeassionals |
DAANI wish to highlight the fantastic sporting opportunities available to people of restricted growth of all ages across Northern Ireland. As you may already know, approximately one child in 25,000 is born with some form of dwarfism each year and as an Association we know that there are a high number of dwarfs who are unaware of our Association and the support we can provide. |
| Our Association is dedicated to enriching the lives and raising levels of self esteem amongst people of restricted growth through the medium of sport. Our Northern Ireland region offers a wide range of sports and physical activities on a regular basis such as Badminton, Football, Athletics and Skiing. We also organise regular outdoor adventurous activities such as water skiing, climbing and archery. Obviously, health is high on the Government Agenda and we feel that our Association provides regular, high quality physical activity to keep people of restricted growth fit and healthy and also reduce the incidence of obesity. |
| A key focus of the Association is to advise people of restricted growth of the sports and activities that may be detrimental to the body due to the condition of dwarfism, such as trampolining and gymnastics. We feel that it is important for people of restricted growth to be aware of potential health implications related to specific activities and we hope that we can work with your establishment to educate both Health Professionals and people of restricted growth. |
| As an Association, we would like to work with you to contact and support people of restricted growth as we can offer support both on a health and emotional agenda i.e. to provide regular physical activity and raise self esteem through the provision of a social support network and the making of life long friends. Over the past 14 year history of the Dwarf Athletic Association, we know that joining our Association has a significant positive impact on levels of self esteem and confidence amongst people of all ages. |
| We hope that you will promote our Association across your professional networks and that you signpost people of all ages who are of restricted growth themselves or have a child of restricted growth to our Association. If you would like to see our Region in action or support an individual or family in joining the Association, please do not hesitate to contact me to arrange a visit or meeting. |
I look forward to hearing from you soon, Kind Regards, Eugene McVeigh |
